Lake Ontario. Now and always.
Canoogle is Canadian. Our maps and search results use Lake Ontario as the primary name.
Lake Ontario is the official name recorded by the Geographical Names Board of Canada and Ontario’s naming authority. In French, the official form is Lac Ontario.
The United States issued an executive order in August 2026 directing its federal systems to use “Lake America.” Canoogle will document that U.S. usage when it matters, but we will not replace the Canadian and internationally established name with it.
A search engine should explain contested naming decisions, not silently rewrite geography according to a viewer’s IP address.
Primary labels follow the relevant Canadian or broadly established international name. Official regional variants are disclosed with context and sources. Canoogle does not silently relabel shared geography based on political pressure.
