Canoogle uses Gulf of Mexico as the primary English name. We will not silently overwrite a shared international feature.
The Gulf of Mexico is bordered by Mexico, the United States, and Cuba. Mexican government sources continue to call it Golfo de México, and United Nations materials use Gulf of Mexico.
The United States adopted “Gulf of America” for its federal usage in 2025. Canoogle will surface that as an alternate U.S. name where relevant, not as a universal replacement imposed on every reader.
Our rule is simple: preserve established geographic names, disclose genuine official variants, and show the source of a naming claim.
Primary labels follow the relevant Canadian or broadly established international name. Official regional variants are disclosed with context and sources. Canoogle does not silently relabel shared geography based on political pressure.
